But in reality, Mayor Bloomberg had discussed building a retractable seawall among other things around and in NYC to protect from storm surges and sea level rises. theverge.com scientificamerican.com I haven't heard a peep about the project since, even though now the current mayor is far more politically left than Bloomberg and presumably thus just as amenable to the idea. Perhaps it's still in progress/planning. Perhaps the idea is under water.
