SA,

"Prince Al Waleed was quoted in a Time magazine U.S. edition interview published on the Internet as saying he bought the five percent stakes [ in NewsCorp and Metscape] in late October."

He also said he had bought an undisclosed but sizeable number of shares in technology group Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT - news).

True, the 1% stake in MOT could have been purchased anytime and will not need to be disclosed to SEC, since he is under 5% "insider" limit.
I think it likely, however, that he bought MOT around same time frame as he bought the others. The Prince seems to like to buy when the blood is in the streets. He did the same thing with CCI in 1992 at $12/share. I had mistakenly thought the Citicorp coup was much earlier and done by another member of the Royal Family.

This Prince has a heck of a track record. Caveat vendor! <g>
