I spoke with someone at Intel about a year ago about a new circuit design that would be extremely highspeed and was intended to be used first in Willamette. It was secret and he would not reveal any details except to say it was revolutionary. It is possible that this is what is at work here.

Unless they have dealt with the problem of clock skew, 3 GHz control is impossible. IBM made some comments about localized clock buffering to get to 4 GHz last week, but said that it was still several years off .
