Another reason is likely to be earnings.

If some of the analysts are right Intel might be shy of projections by a couple of cents or $70-80M in profit.

With the 750/800's instead of inventorying them for the Jan 15 launch they can ship them out in Q4.

With 3 part numbers with even miniscule volumes (for Intel anyway) of say 100K units per part thats 300K units.

If OEM price is say $600 that is an incremental profit of over $500/unit or $150M.

That gives them a cushion of 4-5 cents on profits as well.

They only issue with NOT announcing early is if it would hurt lower speed parts. But everyone says that high end Cumines are sold out and in great demand.

This probably takes care of any softness in mid-range that has been speculated upon that might have caused Intel to miss.

And I suspect that my numbers of 100K units per speed grade might be light.
