Rove sought a 50.1% victory, and used wedge issues and demonizing tactics to achieve it. Obama didn't do either one of those things.

That's true. But the article didn't accuse Obama of wedge issues and demonizing tactics, so what's your beef?

It seems to me so obvious that Obama's strategy was not Rove's that I find it hard to understand why you think it was.

If I said that an apple is like a banana in that they are both fruits, you might protest that, no, that's not true because bananas aren't red. And I would retort that I never claimed that bananas are red. I only claimed that both are fruits and, indeed, both are fruits. That they differ in color is beside the point. By protesting the color comparison, you're protesting an assertion that wasn't made and is beside the point. That is a logical fallacy.

Obama's strategy was Rovian, just as the article said, in that it focused on strengthening the base, then expanding it with as little compromise as necessary until reaching a majority, just as the article said. No other Rovian feature was asserted in the article and all unasserted Rovian features are irrelevant. You're reacting to a figment. You might as well object to the comparison on the grounds that Rove is fat and Obama is fit. But neither Rove's waistline nor his penchant for demonizing was placed on the table in the article so neither is relevant.
