I always look at these figures with a little skepticism. Those sailors are being paid whether they are there or plowing around in the ocean. The ship is operating whether it be there or poking holes in the ocean. I suppose they are flying extra missions but they do an awful lot of flying at sea to keep everyone sharp anyhow. It reminds of the huge stink when some Col. flew a C-130 from Omaha to Colorado Springs for a football game and flew it back. Someone in the press got hold of that and said taxpayers paid like 250000 just so that this guy could see a football game. Of course 3 days later on the back page it was pointed out that the crew needed flight hours and if they weren't flying to the Springs they would have been flying in circles around Omaha so what the hell difference did it make.

At least in this case they arent throwing the numbers out like the military is wasting money.
