ONElist Doubles Business in Less Than 100 Days as Members Exchange Over 20 Million Daily E-mail Messages BUSINESS WIRE - June 08, 1999 09:46 SAN MATEO, Calif., Jun 8, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) -- Latest Media Metrix Ratings Rank ONElist as the Largest and Most Visited E-mail List Community Web Service on the Internet
ONElist, Inc. (http://www.onelist.com), the leading provider of free e-mail list and group communication services for average users of the Internet, today announced that it has doubled the size of its service in less than 100 days. This milestone was celebrated as ONElist members exchanged over 20 million e-mail messages per day among its lively e-mail list communities--a figure that exceeds the combined circulation for the Top 30 leading U.S. daily newspapers.
Confirming ONElist's leadership, the latest figures released by Media Metrix rank ONElist as the most visited e-mail list community Web Service(1). Media Metrix, recognized as the leading Internet audience measurement service, reported ONElist as the 22nd largest Web Services, and number 230 of the Top 500 most visited Web sites (April 1999). Importantly, Media Metrix numbers show that ONElist's industry ranking as measured by audience reach is more than twice the level of its nearest e-mail list community competitor.
"ONElist's growth ramp is most impressive," said Andy Bose, president and CEO of Access Media International. "E-mail list services open exciting new opportunities for building and maintaining customer relationships. This is an exciting new Internet business category, and as the leader, ONElist bears watching closely."
Doubling of E-Mail Lists In addition to doubling the number of email messages exchanged by its members, ONElist has also doubled the number of e-mail lists it hosts, which now total more than 165,000 lists. On average, 5,000 new ONElist communities are created each week around every imaginable topic, ranging from current events to entertainment to small business support communities. In particular, a high number of very large lists (ranging from 10,000 - 100,000 members) have migrated to ONElist because of ONElist's uniquely scalable and reliable system architecture, as well as its rich set of list moderator tools.
"We are proud of the rapid growth of our service," said Mark Fletcher, ONElist's founder and CEO. "Although being the category leader is important from a business development and financial perspective, our focus continues to be on providing average users of the Internet with the easiest, most reliable and richest service where they can go to get in touch and stay in touch with kindred spirits."
Rapid Uptake of New Features In the last 100 days, ONElist announced several new features to enhance group communications, including file sharing, group calendars, and user survey capabilities. The latest user statistics show that these new features are being widely embraced by ONElist aficionados. For example, nearly 10,000 user surveys have been initiated since mid-April when this new feature was introduced. In addition, nearly 25% of the most active lists use ONElist's shared file features to exchange photographs and documents, while 90% of all ONElist list communities take advantage of the ability to archive historical list content, creating one of the richest sources of user-generated information on the Web.
