There is a new strange mood of acceptance among Americans about the world beyond our shores.

Projection, I'd say.

Or maybe his friends feel that way, or it's simply the winter blues and blahs.

My brother was in Tibet for a couple of weeks, going back in Feb., helping set up a hospital at a monastery.

My sister is moving to France in a week, will stay indefinitely, hoping to get a job there.

My dad's anxiously awaiting the arrival of his Chinese girlfriend on her "fiancee visa". That's the woman he met on the Internet and has visited several times over the past year.

The world seems more closely connected than ever.
