Douglas, no forecasts yet of the rate of Singapore dollar strengthening that I know of. Many so-called experts were publicly saying they were looking for the SGD to hit 2.00 just a short while back. The trouble with forecasting is you cannot factor in political developments like the US helping out, or Singapore extending guarantees to Indonesia. So, most of these forecasts were of the "assuming current problems persist" category. I wonder where these experts are now.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that Japan will do something drastic pretty quick. They've done almost a decade of recession and now with the Asian economies taking a big hit, Japan could be pushed into an outright DEpression if they don't do something fast. Anyway, they have buckets of reserves and US Treasury bonds, etc. and Hashimoto seems pretty powerful (in a crisis the opposition is usually much better behaved - just look at Korea) at the moment so this is about the best time to launch more Big Bang stuff.
