The banks would like nothing better than higher rates, all you have to do is watch their stock prices when rates inch up. That raises not lowers their profits. And the market does drive "real" rates, the Fed is generally a step behind. As long as there isn't a demand for credit, and with corps holding record cash there won't be, then we'll have low rates. It's not a conspiracy theory just the way things have always been. Not as much fun as seeing a plot everywhere, but it's reality.
