One of the arguments being made about the current system is that it holds many workers captive because they are afraid to switch jobs/careers because of coverage...

I am sympathetic to that and fully support changes to provide portability.

But that doesn't change the fact that I was not captive. I simply made the choice to stay with my employer because, of the available options, it was in my best interest. Life is about making choices. It is a rare situation when we can optimize all things concurrently. Sometimes you give up X to get Y. Life doesn't promise us a rose garden.

And I definitely do not support taking away any choices. One size fits all is not acceptable. Portability improves choice. Single payer denies choice utterly. The current proposal is at cross purposes choice-wise.
