Corel Licenses New Technology from Borland Corelr Paradoxr 8 Will Include Borland SQL Builder, Borland InterBase and Local InterBase Server and Borland SQL Links
Ottawa, Canada- July 15, 1997- Corel Corporation, award-winning developer and marketer of productivity applications, graphics and Internet software, announced today a new licensing deal with Borland International, Inc. Corel will license Borland SQL Builder, Borland SQL Links, and Borland InterBase and Local InterBase Server for inclusion with Corelr Paradoxr 8, due to ship this summer. The deal reflects Corel's ongoing relationship with Borland as they continue to work together to produce future versions of Corelr Paradoxr and develop complimentary technology.
"We are pleased to be including Borland's expert technology in the upcoming Corel Paradox 8," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "This license agreement will help Corel further its leadership position in the suite business, improve integration and extend customers' investment in Paradox through Corel's increased support for the product."
Borlandr InterBaser Relational Database Server is one of the leading database server products on the market. It is well known for its ease of installation, ease of use, ease of administration, and ease of maintenance. Small but powerful, InterBase uses only 2 MB of RAM and 10 MB of disk, yet includes many advanced features, missing from other products, such as international character support, event alerters, triggers, user defined functions, stored procedures, and declarative referential integrity. Large numbers of both VAR and corporate business-critical applications use Borland InterBase as the core database management system due to its power and simplicity. Such applications, embedding InterBase, can now be developed easily with Corel Paradox 8 as front end.
Borlandr Local InterBaser Server offers true partitioned client/server development, including transactions, on one machine, which is ideal for single-user development and deployment. Users can administer databases visually with powerful Windowsr tools. The Borland Local InterBase Server is fully scalable; therefore, data, stored procedures and triggers work when moved to other Borland InterBase platforms such as Windows NTr, NetWare and UNIX.
Borland SQL Links provides Corel Paradox 8 users with an easy-to-use and powerful client/server solution. It provides native, high-performance drivers for Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, Informix, DB2 and InterBase. It transparently connects users to the throughput, power, security and reliability of today's powerful SQL servers, using familiar tools. Based on Borland's unified engine technology, SQL Links allows Windows users of Corel Paradox 8 to access distributed enterprise data as easily as if it were local data residing in a desktop PC. Borland SQL Links connects Corel Paradox 8-and all of the reports, queries, forms and applications developed with it-with the wide range of data resources provided by a company's database servers, while maintaining data security.
Borland SQL Builder is a new graphical query editor added to make creating complicated SQL queries more intuitive. Users can create simple or complicated queries using the new drag-and-drop interface. SQL Builder employs Borland's innovative two-way tools technology to allow users to work visually or in text.
