The firm's restructuring includes creation of a business unit focused on the electronics market. Manugistics is moving into electronics as a defense against its arch rival, I2 Technologies of Irving, Tex., which lately has encroached on Manugistics's niche of consumer packaged goods.
"They're saying: 'If we're being attacked in our core market, we'll attack in their core market,' " said Chris Desautelle, an analyst with Legg Mason Wood Walker in Baltimore.
