I think calling this 'front-running research' may be a misleading term. Nothing like front running your own research.

What people are objecting to, I think, is front-running the publication of the research. That is, taking a position in the stock before publicizing an opinion.

Is that the real question/issue/concern here? Is it wrong to research a stock, then take a position, then publicize one's opinion?

But isn't that what many message board posters do, myself included? Do some research, take a position, announce my opinion, defend my opinion. Is that wrong?

If so, then, are we talking about some line in the sand regarding publishing? There should be a limit to how widely one's voice may be heard if one has taken a postion first. Is that the issue?

I'm just trying to clarify the issue here because it is one that arises again and again.
