According to a New York Times/CBS News Poll released today, a majority of the public supports Supreme Court intervention in the Florida ballot dispute.

Asked if they thought it was a good idea or a bad idea for the Supreme Court to get involved in the election, 54 percent of the respondents said it was a good idea and 39 percent considered it a bad idea.

On another issue, the poll asked whether the decision to certify Mr. Bush as the winner of Florida's electoral votes was fair and accurate or not fair and accurate. The response to that question was evenly split at 47 percent behind each opinion.

The nationwide poll, which was conducted on Monday and Tuesday among 1,012 adults, has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
