Who can really say what is the first rock video. Ricky Nelson used to sing at the end of an episode of Ozzie and Harriet. Is that a "rock video"? Is Elvis singing in one of his movies a rock video? It's kind of ill defined.

To the best of my knowledge, the first time a "rock and roll" song was ever played on film was the 1955 movie, "Blackboard Jungle", and the song was "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comments. But was that performance a "rock video" in the sense that it was a visual representation of a story being sung by the performer? I doubt it. That is why I picked "Hard Days Night as more closely resembling what one calls a "rock video".
