Militias are obsolete but there is a successor implementation. It's called the National Guard. They're the ones who need to be armed, not Joe Sixpack.

1 - The right is the right of the people, not the militia.

2 - The militia still exists. Check the relevant federal law. True it could be changed by statute, but by law I am a member of the militia and it has nothing to do with my former National Guard duty.

The freedom of the press, is and probably should be, extended to its successors. The "right of the people" (direct quote from the amendment) should not be reduced to something less than a right of the people.
