You can come closer to printing ammo than a rifled barrel. Exactly why, well that is another question.

If you want an unregistered gun, you can make a so-called ghost gun. You can buy all of the components needed except for a complete lower receiver. And that you can get almost fully machined as an 80% lower for a few hundred bucks. And that can be finished with hand tools if need be. Your local makerspace or hackerspace likely has a Bridgeport(or equivalent) endmill which can do a more professional job. A small investment in chemicals and you can even parkerize it to give that black finish that causes your average ammosexual to pack wood.

No background check. No serial numbers. You aren't supposed to sell them unless you are a licensed gunsmith. But it isn't all that hard to do. Few people do it, but I imagine the legality of it might change if a bunch of people start making them. Especially if they figure out it isn't all that difficult to do a bit more work and make it fully automatic.
