Three things to keep in mind:

1. Athlon's dual-issue FPU has twice per-clock peak performance of Willamette's single-issue FPU.

2. Willamette's performance maybe severely limited by the half-speed decoder, especially in presence of frequent trace cache faults.

3. Willamette's high branch mispredict penalty will also handicap performance somewhat.

Amdahl's Law says: the system's overall performance is limited by the performance of the slowest component (or something like that). Or to paraphrase it: A year from now Intel shareholders may not give a rat's hat for 3GHz Willamette ALUs.
