RE: <Consider the following statements:>

Elmer,

The numbers I have been citing are theoretical architectural maximum numbers. I concede that real world performance can differ for a number of reasons but if Athlon really does have a higher maximum architectural potential than Willamette based on execution horsepower (single issue vs. dual issue) then AMD has a lot of features that they can add without totally redesigning their core. To be sure (tm. Chuck, hehe) Willamette has some bad a$$ cool features but will they be enough to compensate for Athlon having almost double the theoretical maximum instuction execution horsepower? Especially in the face of future Athlon enhancements? That remains to be seen and I don't think it is a foregone conclusion one way or the other but, to me, Willamette is not yet the slam dunk that I thought it might be just a day or two ago. I have read posts that repeatedly stated comfort with AMD's short term prospects but were more pessimistic about their long term. I think that unless they screw up AMD is still in the game even long term. (for now anyway) That is all I am saying.

Thanks,

Epinephrine
