Kap,

Amdahl's Law says: the system's overall performance is limited by the performance of the slowest component

In ideal world, the overall performance would be the most important measure of a CPU. But in the real world, MHz (Ghz) rules. Intel will come up with tests under which Willy will beat Athlon (and Intel may not even have to stretch the truth to do it). So the issue of a slowest component of a CPU will be irrelevant to 95% of the buyers.

The dumbing down of general PC publications (PC Magazine, PC World, disappearance of Byte) is going to make these performance comparisons more and more irrelevant to majority of PC buyers.
