Sony came to LSI and said this is what we need.

LSI said Ok but we need to make a profit, you want us to commit to a very low revenue stream with the initial price.

Sony went away!

Then Sony came back.

Why? Because they could not find anyone with the design capabilities and process technology of LSI to do similar designs.
