Bush's action on getting the $700 Billion in TARP money was the most important, the ONLY significant government action, that made any positive difference in the way that period played out economically. The so-called stimulus that followed did NOTHING.

As is typical, the Democrats created a problem that left the country's ass in a sling. And the Republicans had to act under emergency conditions to straighten out the mess.

That TARP money restored some modicum of confidence in a situation where all confidence was lost.

While I wasn't sure at the time whether it was a good idea, looking back there is no question that it was one of the best decisions George W. Bush made during his presidency.

One of the problems with allowing us to hit rock bottom is we don't know where the bottom is.
