I don't recall a non-Congress PM in India for a loooong period of time.

Study recent (like last 20 years) Indian Politics please. (Maybe y'all should take a test like I have to for my US naturalization process :-)).
What you call "looong period" is less than 50 years in post independence India. The current government is not Congress.

Ms Indira Gandhi did NOT INHERIT the role of Prime Minister. Put all the spin you want, but the fact is that people in India voted her in, later voted her out and later voter voted her in.

If you recall India's history of struggle for independence from the Empire, you will see that the Congress party was one of the major players in gaining independance. Why does it surprise you that less than 60 years after independence, they are still a major player ?

I dont apologize for the fact that India does not dish out McDonalds style "fast food democracy" (would you like it with super sized fries?) .
