Windows XP is definetly the best OS that MSFT has ever created. No longer using MS-DOS as a shell. Been using it since Beta II. :)

Yes..a 500 mhz PIII will be fine (PII may be sluggish, but it will work..maxing out RAM is the big key). Min RAM req. is 128, so you're ok. RAM is dirt cheap now, so that's always the first thing I'd upgrade in any PC or Mac.

If you are seriously thinking about upgrading to a new PC, I can't think of a better time to do it. You're kids can always use your older one for school work.

The economy is hurting. Merchants are very worried about this xmas. PC makers are doing amazing deals to boost the xmas season numbers. OEM's are now shipping with Windows XP installed. Dell, Compaq, Gateway, you name it.

I'm planning on getting one for my dad for xmas. he's got an ancient Pent II laptop that's not good for much but email... he doesn't know he's getting it :>)
