Last night at dinner I overheard our waiter talking with someoneabout satellite phones. So I loaned him mine for the day. He returned it this evening with........(are you ready?).. a GREAT report. He had called his wife in Paris, France. Both of them were amazed and very appreciative. Phone calls are important to cruise staff who are here for six months. He thought the quality was great. He thought $2 per minute was "not bad". Granted he wasn't paying, and I don't for a minute think he is going out to buy one, but at least he saw the value very clearly. This is a bright man, who knows the prices of the latest TVs etc. I asked him to show it to the Captain. He replied that the Captain doesn't need this, he has plenty of communications options. You can be assured that the rest of the crew on this ship will hear about it, however. The head waiter was quizzing me about it. So it was a gratifying, if not immediately profitable, experience. Best New Year's wishes to all of us.
