Hi Sandie: the RBOCs want to meter all modem connections, have been
after it for a long time..and some Gov officials want to tax it to,
this has been for years..and we have raised a lot of noise aginst
it, even before the internet got popular, they were after us on the
BB systems..Not long ago I too felt that with thier clout the RBOCs
would in due course take over the local ISPs..not any more..
the RBOCs overcharging monopoly is about to get broken,
they were not happy with their fat margins, they wanted more..
always more..well wireless local loop is now going to do an
end run right around them , and the sooner the better.
Even now your local telco makes more off the internet than the ISPs
as they rent out the local lines, at comercial rates and you need
one for every modem, and they don't give discounts for volume,
each line is also taxed for interstate, and 911 and all, even
though it's only used local, and dedicated to a modem..
they have us by the ear..keep an eye on WLL technoligy..it's
getting ready to turn a conner. It won't hurt companies like
PSIX..in fact it will help, as without the need for the
ROBC..ISPs can charge even less than they do now.
I hope to be hooked up local loop via full duplex RF to my provider within 3 months, and the speed will be at least 10x the
fasted modem speed. Watch and see what airtouch is worth 2 or
3 years from now.
