I read the interview. It was clear he was playing Devil's Advocate. He has made his positive views of the merger known on several occasions. He thinks it's a good idea (one of the reasons I have switched my views on it).
Reporters, on the other hand, don't pay attention to context. They simply listen to words, and don't analyze them. They are morons.
