You are right - no one knows. But if I had to guess, and I do - I would guess that gold got a better start than silver because of the institutional nature of the metal and the excessive short covering. I expect that when silver breaks through 6.00 all the computers in the world will be set to buy and it should move quickly to 7.00. In 1987 that is exactly what happened. In fact the circumstances were almost the same for silver. It had struggled for a long time in the 5 dollar range and then wham through 6 and on to seven; and the silver stocks are still laggard.
