Obama suggests GOP should withdraw support of Trump

(NEWSER) – It's been another volatile day on the campaign trail, with attacks and counter-attacks aplenty. Some of the headline-makers so far:
President Obama again called Donald Trump "unfit to serve as president" and suggested that Republicans withdraw their support of him. "The notion that he would attack a Gold Star family that had made such extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of our country, the fact that he doesn’t appear to have basic knowledge around critical issues in Europe, in the Middle East, in Asia means that he’s woefully unprepared to do this job," he said. Of GOP leaders he asked, "Why are you still endorsing him?" More at Politico.
Trump, meanwhile, went after "Crooked Hillary" in Virginia by attacking her ties with big donors. "I want to find out how many I know, but I'll tell you what 20 people gave her—$60 million," Trump said. "The game is played that way; they own her." See CNBC.
Rep. Richard Hanna of New York became the first GOP congressman to declare that he will vote for Clinton. See the Syracuse Post-Standard. Eric Trump defended his father's comments on Ivanka Trump and hypothetical workplace sexual harassment. (The elder Trump had said, “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case.”) The younger Trump elaborated: "I think what he’s saying is, Ivanka is a strong, powerful woman, she wouldn’t allow herself to be objected to it, and by the way, you should take it up with Human Resources.” USA Today has more details.
Eric Trump also said the controversy over his father's dispute with the Khan family has been "blown hugely out of proportion," reports the Hill. "My father called him a hero on so many different occasions."
