Cabinet Office Sees Year-End Nikkei Stock Avg At 8,833-10,272

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Economists affiliated with the Cabinet Office have forecast that the Nikkei Stock Average will close at between 8,833 and 10,272 at the year-end, compared with the current range around 9,500, it was learned Monday.

They expect the dollar to close of between 113-121 yen.

The projections by 18 economists, which were based on preliminary gross domestic product data released on Aug. 30, were gathered in early September.

Real economic growth for this fiscal year was forecast at an average 0.2%, with growth for the July-September period and two following quarters estimated at 0.2% quarter on quarter.

For fiscal 2003, they expect a 0.6% expansion in real terms, noting that economic growth will continue but a slow pace.
