Taiwan suppliers prevail in SRAM dumping case

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The U.S. Department of Commerce officially rescinded an anti-dumping order against Taiwanese SRAM manufacturers on Monday (Jan. 14), ending a long-running case filed by Micron Technology Inc. in 1997.

Micron (Boise, Idaho) targeted Taiwanese and South Korean manufacturers in its original complaint. The U.S. International Trade Commission sided with Micron in 1998, saying the SRAMs were being sold below value and were therefore causing harm to U.S.-based manufacturers.

That decision was appealed by the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association, and after a handful of back-and-forth appeals, the Taiwanese manufactures prevailed. The resolution of the case means that Taiwanese companies will no longer need to pay deposits on SRAM imports. All import duties related to dumping will also be refunded, retroactive to 1997.
