These network computers are being pushed by companies that would love to see all of us use a "main frame" as a server. The companies that pushed it were IBM (main frames, duh!), Novell (last ditch attempt to stay alive) etc. They expect users to down load programs to their PC's RAM and when needed, store data on a server. In my discussions with my collegues (all of us of software engineers) we really disliked the idea. Networks are simply not fast enough and not reliable enough. How would you like to find yourself looking for a needed file and the network is down? These network computers are a last ditch attempt by the main framers, IMO they won't succeed. Not long ago (8 years ago) I had a 80meg drive and I was happy, now I have 3 gig and I am constantly running out of space, my colleagues say exactly the same thing. The trend as I see it, is still more and bigger hard drives. That means Ampex's technology is here to stay, they are going to make a lot of money and so will we.

Go Ampex!
