An honorable candidate having a message appealing to the populace should be electable without being identified with a particular group's platform, and the economic support that is tied to that. Even 'Independant' is now becoming a group.

Like minded people are going to push the same type of platform. To get a large enough group to win elections compromises will be made where different groups combine some of their goals (and drop others). I don't consider the process inherently objectionable, and I don't think eliminating it is going to work. I'd even say that any attempt to do so is likely to do more harm than good.
