AT&T Information Services Platform to use Linkon equipment NEW YORK -- Linkon Corp. Wednesday announced that a major new multifaceted information service product to be marketed worldwide by AT&T and announced today by AT&T, will be based in part on software and hardware developed and supplied by Linkon.
AT&T has agreed to purchase hardware and operating software from Linkon for the AT&T Information Services Platform, a new enhanced information services platform introduced today by the communications giant.
The AT&T Information Services Platform will enable AT&T customers to quickly and easily automate interactive access to information by telephone, using the full range of communications functions including touch tone, voice and CELP voice compression, data input with voice, modem, fax and speech recognition and text-to-speech. The new AT&T product answers the demand for an open, distributed computing/network system for customer service- oriented businesses.
Linkon's proprietary technology is one of the reasons that the AT&T Information Services Platform operates faster and with greater flexibility at lower cost than enhanced information service packages offered by other systems providers. The technology permits seamless integration of functions and provides greater density, since no add-on boards are required to handle the various functions.
No financial terms were disclosed, although Linkon officials say that demand for the AT&T Information Services Platform could have a "substantial" impact on the company's revenues.
"The development of AT&T Information Services Platform opens new growth possibilities for Linkon," said Lee W. Hill, president of Linkon. "It is no exaggeration to say that this could increase Linkon revenues at a substantial rate." Linkon shares are traded over-the-counter.
One key to the AT&T Information Services Platform is Linkon- supplied hardware and software that enables a single port to handle the full variety of advanced interactive speech technologies such as speech recognition, text-to-speech, CELP compression, fax and modem (E-mail).
