Monica,

Market wants cheap 500 to 700s

The key word is cheap. The frequency range keeps changing.

Right now, you can get either ~500 MHz CPUs cheaply (Celeron, K6), but there are no cheap CPUs in the 500 - 700 range. The low end Athlons are fairly cheap ( < $200 ), but AMD seems to be limiting the quantities of anything under 650 MHz. 650 is still fairly cheap (around $200), about the same price as PIII 500E.
