Craig, good letter. Here are some suggestions:
November 13, 1997
Dr. Robert Akins Chairman of the Board, CEO and President Cymer, Inc. 16750 Via Del Campo Court San Diego, CA. 92127-1712
Dear Dr. Akins:
I write to you as a representative of a small, but loyal group of individual Cymer shareholders. We have organized through the Internet and through online services (Silicon Investor and America Online) and currently represent approximately XXX,XXX shares -- or about XX percent of Cymer's publicly owned stock. The group has elected me to speak on its behalf. We write to you to request a brief meeting during your visit to New York next week or at Cymer headquarters the following week.
Our first item during that meeting would be to extend our collective vote of confidence to all Cymer employees for their outstanding achievements throughout this year. We especially would like to congratulate them for keeping their focus on making and delivering the tools for tomorrow's computers during these tumultuous two months. As a group, we believe that much of the recent volatility in the company's share price -- which began with the large short positions established by a number of speculators -- has been exacerbated by inaccurate information about Cymer in the marketplace and by poor understanding of the company's unique position in the semiconductor industry. We would like your help to address some of these concerns and questions -- particularly questions that were not asked by analysts during the last conference call.
I apologize for this short notice, and if either of the following two weeks are unavailable, we can accommodate your schedule through our consortium members based in the San Diego area. I live in greater New York and will be in San Diego the week of November 24.
Please inform us of your decision at your earliest convenience.
Respectfully,
