Mothers always think of the obvious, first. It is good for children that can have both parents in the home. I do pretty well now that he can communicate these things to me unambiguously, but for the first months, I think his Mom was uniquely qualified to tell exactly what the matter was.

Your concern is refreshing. Our culture diminishes children in so many ways! We've opted out of acivities because our son was tired or not feeling well and others have given us blank stares -- like "what not do something because of your child?" Sometimes work functions have been planned without kids. I usually opt out of these. We are blessed in that we have been given the means for my wife to stay at home -- she worked in daycare some previously. It broke her heart to see kids "warehoused." I hope I don't offend anyone here, I know some have to have both parents working, but some don't, too.
