Lucent Technologies Inc. Dow Jones Newswires -- September 22, 1999 DJ Mkt Still Growing, Says Putnam Investment Chief Cotner NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The economy is still "growing rapidly" despite Tuesday's stock market drop, said the chief investment officer from Putnam Investors Fund. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 225.43 points Tuesday. "We have low rates of inflation. There's no real sign that inflation is accelerating," C. Beth Cotner said during a CNBC interview Wednesday. The earnings of Standard & Poors' 500 companies "are still growing at a very nice rate," she said. "We're looking for about 15% this year accelerating to about 16% next year." Cotner said she favors software stocks like Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU), BMC Software Inc. (BMCS) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), which she said will be driven in the next four to six quarters by sales of its Windows 2000 software. BEST WISHES BILL
