True. As I recall, after Saddam was overthrown a CNN executive named Eason Jordan admitted CNN had known a great deal about humman rights abuses in Iraq but refrained from reporting the situation in order to maintain access to the country. It's pretty clear the whole country lived in fear of their government - for good reason. Nowadays many Iraqis are, I'm sure, still living in fear, yet not all are.

The violence ongoing now is mostly confined to certain areas - Baghdad, larger cities and the Sunni areas. Baghdad and Anbar province accounts for half of more of the violence going on.
