Alice misses confluence:
(Alice Hill is vice president and editorial director of the technology news service CNET Online.)
Alice,
Milking chips to the max makes multiple devices efficient and cheap, obviously. Alice, you're being very hardware centric.
You should think more about capabilities, Alice. You haven't here given a sentence toward synergies enabled through convergence. Go ahead, put a TV and a radio into the same cabinet. No synergy. You posit "web-enabled" as a cliched fad --- without spending a word on new capabilities "web-enabled" devices make possible. Alice, no doubt you'd also be blind if you were assigned, next week, to write about the differences between TV as we know it and interactive TV...
You sound like one who'd also be wearing blinders in regard to "watching TV on computers." It reads, then, as if you might well miss the real substance if it came up and nipped you on the ass.
Alice: ever notice a video output jack on the back of a good video board? How about audio output jacks on the back of good sound boards --- are we listening to our CDs on our laptops? Now you CNET, now you don't.
Sorry to be so personal, but you are being an an embarrassment to the doormouse name. |
