My original comments were that I feared the current movement to redefine marriage as a union of whoever to whoever (gays, polygamists, groups, biological family members and so on) would lead to legimization of child marriage and child sexual activity aka pedophilia.

It seems to me you steered this to a discussion of pedophilia among "normal" families, suggesting I should be concerned about this instead. Just to make it official, just because I'm concerned about the potential that child marriage and child sexual activity will be legitimized doesn't mean I am unconcerned about pedophilia going on in "normal" families.

Getting back to my subject, I think there is good reason to think that minor consent to sexual activity could become a future "rights" issue like gay marriage is now.

Consider that minors are being extended the right in many places to get abortions without parental consent or knowledge. In many places, there are moves to provide condoms and other contraceptives without parental consent to minors as well. And there is widespread opposition to promoting/teaching/advising sexual abstinence for minors. Add this all up and it seems there is widespread support for freeing minors to engage in what ought to be adult activities.

Also consider the Boy Scouts issue. There has been an amazing campaign against the BSA in recent years over the issue of gay scout leaders (that is the BSA refuses to allow them) and the inclusion of "duty to God" and "morally straight" values in their oath. They are having to fight in court to get and maintain access to school,park, and other government related facilities and to be included in lists of organizations that employees may designate charitable contributions to. The whole idea of fighting for gay boy scout leaders seems designed to create conditions conducive to pedophilia.
