Hugues: You forgot the most valuable aspect of the sub $1000 system;
Recruiting for Apple. The profit will be made downstream as people use them and them move upmarket. the same forces will drive the Apple as the WIntel. Faster cheaper each year and so they will migrate upwards along the apple,pathway and new recruits will join the sub $1000 group and start to move up.
This was the most notable lack with Apples high prices, no recruits, as they lost those to WIntels, and look what happened...down strean\m sales died.
