It is difficult other than to look at actual outcomes. Even those are difficult. The ACA was actually DESIGNED to bury the performance metrics for ten years, and only now are they starting to come to light. I'm sure this is done with some other laws, as well.

About all you can do is survey different sources I think. For a long time I stopped reading anything that wasn't somewhat dated because the passage of time often sorts out some of the bias. Today, unbiased news coverage is a rarity.

I do love everything written by David McCullough, even those he is a liberal. I've read most of what he has written, and I've never seen a hint of bias in ANY of it. The Edmund Morris biography of Teddy Roosevelt is the same way; politics just doesn't seem to enter in when people are writing about 50 or 100 years ago.

OTOH, I read one book only by Douglas Brinkley and would never waste time on him again, because his writing was so biased (I read his book on Katrina, which was a factual account for the most part but loaded with biased rants).
