I'm self employed so you don't need to explain that - I feel your pain! There's a lot more that I think need be addressed.

To get the government out of it - allow people to opt out of SS but keep the deduction rules in place. Employers still pay 7.65 as do employees (most of which is SS but some of its medicare). You have the same thing as we have now only people would own and be able to hand down their SS to their kids - just like an asset.

Stock losses need to be 100% deductible. The IRS wants a piece of the upside but they don't want ANY downside risk beyond a few thousand dollars per year. If they want a piece of ALL the upside then they should then the should feel all the downside like we do.
