Last night I watched the newly remastered re-release of "Battle of Algiers" on DVD. Excellent. The first time I watched it I was in college, and it meant nothing to me. This time, it really resonated with what is going on all over the world wherever Muslims are clashing with non-Muslims, and especially our own experiences in Iraq.

There are two more DVDs in the set on "the making of" which I will watch tonight.

One scene in the movie made me think of you -- several Muslim women who look French carry bombs through French checkpoints without being searched. The soldiers let through anybody who looks French without being searched, and only search people who look like Arabs. The women leave the bombs in a milk bar, a discotech, and an airport, and kill dozens, without anybody even noticing them.
