Hmm - as to real estate prices in NYC, here is an interesting tidbit that I heard:

Lots of empty luxury coop and condo apartments, especially Manhattan and Long Island City.

No no - not that they are not owned - they are uninhabited.

Why?

- off shore investors.

As to owning a home in the cities' boroughs, taxes are not too bad compared to places in New Jersey and even Long Island.

I've heard of border streets in Queens where one side is in Queens and pays a third of what residents across the street in Long Island pay for property taxes.
