OT OT OT, Sufis, Gaia, and Giordano Bruno:

There are, in Christianity too, many examples (none of which ever came to be the dominant expression of the religion), of the idea of God = the natural world. For example:

On the 17th February 1600, the philosopher Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) was burnt alive as a heretic in Rome. Though he had joined the Dominicans, who had educated him in Aristotelian philosophy and Thomistic theology, he always manifested an independence in thinking. Bruno advocated philosophical theories that blended mystical Neoplatonism and pantheism. He believed that the universe is infinite, that God is the universal world-soul, and that all particular material things are manifestations of the one infinite principle. After imprisonment for eight years by the Inquisition, Bruno was burned at the stake in Campo dei Fiori. mcauley.acu.edu.au
