I think a more probable answer is that if they delay the information once they became aware of it, they'd open to serious letigations.

On another note, I agree with the quote from the Art of War. I interpret it as "he who bought ver low long time ago can afford to forgo some of his losses and analyze the situation. And he who bought options before the earnings is toast!"
