Sheriff Joe Still Thinks Obama's Birth Certificate Is Forged 'I'm not going to give up,' says Joe Arpaio By Arden Dier, Newser Staff newser.com (NEWSER) – Donald Trump may have finally given up on the birther debate, but Joe Arpaio sure hasn't. The Arizona sheriff who organized a volunteer posse that claimed President Obama's birth certificate was a fake back in 2012, says he's still investigating the document. "I don't care where he's from. We are looking at a forged document. Period," he told a group of Surprise Tea Party Patriots on Tuesday, per the Arizona Republic. Arpaio's lead investigator, Mike Zullo, says Trump's statement last week was "unexpected" but likely "strategic." "I'm not going to give up, and we're looking into it," Arpaio adds. "I don't know how it’s going to turn out." Paul Penzone, the man running for sheriff against Arpaio this November, however, says the investigation is "nonsense" and "a waste of resources," per KSAZ. (Arpaio was recently found in contempt of court.)
